Blitz to Broadway

Act One - Blitz: 

Synopsis:

This is a tale about a few individuals who are dsperately searching for a glimpse of joy amidst the pain and anguish of war-torn London. Katherine, the mother and sole provider to her beloved daughters, Esther and Elizabeth, has been told to send her children to a safe house in the country. Reluctantly, the children leave, not knowing when time or fate will bring them back together.

Meanwhile, a group of GI's hit the town for a taste of British hospitality. Find it they do, with the infamous factory girls led by Ellen, an attractive young woman, is desperately longing for romance and a sense of belonging. Alas, having tragically lost her entire family to the war, she shields herself from attachment and watches on quietly as the other factory girls introduce themselves to the yanks. John, one of the gI's, finds himself intrigued by Ellen and is instantly attracted to her. Fate brings them together as Ellen realises that she feels the same for John, despite her fear for love.  Loath to part, John returns to base but promises to see Ellen again.

'The Empire' is the place, where swing and big band provide fun, excitement and entertainment. The evening bursts into life as Max, the owner, kicks off another night of sheer exhilarating dance, music, laughter and romance. Towards the end of the evening, there is a surprise interruption as an officer delivers unexpected news for Katherine, John and the other GI's. The news is both good and bad. Good for Katherine as she is emotionally reunited with her daughters, Esther and Elizabeth. Bad, in that Ellen is left hopelessly alone, tortured by the sudden departure of John and the other GI's.
